Imagine…The Sky’s The Limit

June 25, 2010

Gala Committee co-chairs Rosemary Arcari Wall and Melanie Cecarelli await the start of the festivities.

On June 11, Saint Joseph College celebrated the creation of its School of Pharmacy with a gala event entitled “Imagine…The Sky’s The Limit.” It certainly felt as if anything was possible that evening, as hundreds of guests enjoyed silent and live auction items, a delicious dinner, dancing to live music, and the “Imagine” lounge.

Here are some excerpts from my remarks that evening:

Tonight marks a milestone in the life of Saint Joseph College, for tonight we are celebrating all that the College is and all that it will become.

The School of Pharmacy is a vibrant representation of what Saint Joseph College does best: as a forward-thinking institution we always have — and we always will — develop programs that respond to society’s needs.

Hundreds of people sat down to a marvelous meal.

The Pharmacy School is a natural “next step” in the College’s progressive march toward the future … [it] extends the College’s thriving mission, which, for 78 years, has provided students with a career-focused education while contributing to the well-being of the community.

Tonight’s celebration is about more than the School of Pharmacy, though. It is about the future — a future wide open to opportunity, a future awaiting our ingenuity. And that is the greater purpose of our Gala, the reason why we are really here. We are here to dream, to envision, and to inspire our future.

We will always be all that we are today: a College that prepares its students to meet challenges, one that develops professional competencies and inspires leadership. We will always be that, but we will be more, too. We are the Saint Joseph College of the future — one of limitless potential.

Seriously: imagine the sky is the limit. What then?

Former Board of Trustees Chair Phil Schulz, current Board Chair Jeanne Merola and former Board Chair John Meehan enjoy the evening.

Irv and I danced the night away.
