Springtime Activities

April 1, 2010

Even though the temperature dipped into the 30’s last weekend, it was springtime on the Saint Joseph College campus and the days were packed with activities. On Friday we had the honor of hosting the UN Ambassador to Lithuania. His Excellency gave an informational talk about the strengths of his country, while local residents of Baltic descent provided delicious fare and displayed traditional art from the Baltic region.

Saturday brought considerable excitement as we welcomed about two hundred accepted students and their families. Our guests were filled with anticipation about the future; they eagerly toured the campus and enjoyed the welcome reception. That evening I accepted an award that the organization “My Sister’s Place” presented to Saint Joseph College for our service and commitment to the Greater Hartford community.

Perhaps the true harbinger of spring is not the robin but the Blue Jay...

Sunday brought the clearest signs of spring, when the Saint Joseph College Blue Jays played a softball double-header. The Blue Jays shut out the team from Albertus Magnus College, winning the first game 11-0 and the second game 8-0. The afternoon also included a concert by the United States Coast Guard Academy “Idlers.” The weekend wrapped up with a lovely Palm Sunday service, featuring our own student musicians and choir.
